The Kansas State Council of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) has supported Heartspring as their State Philanthropic Project since 1949. The woman of Epsilon Sigma Alpha have donated countless hours of service, hundreds of thousands of charitable dollars and gifts in kind, all to ensure the children of Heartspring receive top of the line education, therapy and the opportunity to be a kid. Their love and support for the children at Heartspring makes them partners in every way.
Founded in 1929, ESA is a powerful network that brings good people together to accomplish good things—locally, nationally, and internationally. ESA programs and projects help members make a positive difference in the lives of others and in their own lives, both personally and professionally. They have certainly made a difference in the lives of the children at Heartspring.
Each year, the ESA State Council chooses a fundraising project for Heartspring and works throughout the year to meet their goal. This year, chapters throughout the state have held fundraisers and contributed generously toward the Smart Classroom Project. This project will help our students benefit from technology with an interactive whiteboard and multi media system, as well as additional computer work stations and adaptive devices to help them use the computers. At the Kansas State Convention in April, Epsilon Sigma Alpha presented Heartspring with $16,000 for this wonderful project.
ESA’s support of Heartspring children goes beyond purchasing equipment. Chapters from across Kansas participate in the Adopt-a-Child Program at Heartspring School, sending students presents and cards on special occasions throughout the year. Birthdays, holidays and other occasions are celebrated but many chapters also send “just because you are special” gifts to brighten their child’s day. Hardly a day goes by that a gift doesn’t arrive from this very special group. The ladies of Epsilon Sigma Alpha also “showered” Heartspring with gifts during their State Council meeting in November, bringing clothes, sporting equipment, toys and all kinds of supplies for use in the classrooms, homes and therapy rooms. This year, ESA contributed $9,200 in gifts in kind to the children of Heartspring.
The ladies of Epsilon Sigma Alpha also sponsor two dances for the students each year. Volunteers spend all afternoon decorating the gym and setting up treats for the students. The Day of Love dance is held in February and the Prom is in May, coinciding with Heartspring Parents Weekend.
